It’s hard to believe that it’s already Week #4 of the NFL season! Now that we have a few games under our belts, our job of drafting a top rated daily fantasy football team should be a lot easier. However, thanks to the fact that more information means that processing information is also harder, that’s not always going to be the case. Here, we will look at a few of the top ranked players that you might be considering using this weekend. Hopefully our guidance will get you pointed in the right direction for your personal roster.
Quarterback:
Drew Brees: Brees has the highest fantasy point average after three weeks of play, according to some daily fantasy sports sites. With that in mind, it’s probably only natural that he be the most expensive QB in your league. If he’s not, he is worth considering adding to your roster. Brees is averaging 354.0 yards in passing per game and has 8 touchdowns this season. These are really strong numbers anyway you judge it. Add to this the fact that the New Orleans Saints are going against the San Diego Chargers, which do not rate highly from a defensive point of view. Brees has a lot of potential here, as long as you aren’t spending too much on him.
Matt Ryan: Right behind Brees when it comes to fantasy point averages is Matt Ryan. He is very similar to Brees in results; he’s averaging 323.3 yards per game and has 7 touchdowns. He’s slightly off when it comes to Brees, of course, but much fantasy value is made up when you look at rushing. The problem with Ryan is that he’s going up against the Carolina Panthers this weekend, who are much better than most other defenses. While Ryan is typically a good pick when cheap, that’s not the case this weekend.
Wide Receiver:
Antonio Brown: Brown is still one of the best WRs in the NFL, and deserves a look here. The problem that we saw last week with Brown was that he was expensive and going against a tougher defense. That didn’t stop him from securing 12 receptions for 140 yards. Brown had no touchdowns, though. This week, we see a very similar situation with Brown. He’s probably the most expensive WR in your league and he’s going against a tough Kansas City pass defense. Will he do well? Yes. But he might not be the best value pick on your roster. Take that into consideration before you draft him.
Doug Baldwin: Baldwin might seem like a bad idea for most, but let’s look at his numbers quickly. He is averaging 92.0 yards per game this season and has 2 touchdowns. That’s pretty good, but because he’s currently flying under the radar, he’s likely to be cheap in most leagues. That’s much better. If you are going to draft a couple expensive players, you need high value in the mid and low points on your roster, and it looks like Baldwin is providing that, especially given the fact that the New York Jets defense is suffering right now.
Running Back:
Le’Veon Bell: Bell is coming off of a three game suspension, and is priced right near the top of most leagues as far as RBs go. He had a strong last season, and the Kansas City defense is not too strong against the rush. That means QB Ben Roethlisberger will probably rely more on him than he has on his RBs all season. We like him here and see him getting a lot of action. Even if he is a bit expensive, he appears to be worth it. All reports say he’s in great shape, so there are no worries on our end.
Todd Gurley: Gurley is finally priced right where he should be according to what he’s done so far this season in most leagues, but that doesn’t mean that you should draft him. He’s going against one of the stronger rushing defenses so far this season, and his results will likely be below average for him this season. That means that his subpar showings will likely be even further below expectations than they have been. He’s already shown us that our preseason hopes were too high; we’re passing.
