Week #7 of the NFL season kicks off with a Thursday night matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers. The game will take place in San Francisco, but Vegas has listed the Seahawks as 6.5 point favorites. It’s pretty clear that the Seahawks have the advantage, but they haven’t really warmed up to where they should be so far this season. It does leave open the possibility that the 49ers could win, and that means there is a potential for daily fantasy football sleepers. Let’s take a quick look at the game, and what kind of moves you should make if you enter a DFS tournament with Thursday games.
First, let’s look at records. Both teams are 2-4. Losing records early in the season are common, even for good teams. But at this point, the halfway point of the season is pretty close. The Seahawks simply are not as good as they were last year when they went to the Super Bowl. Both of these teams really need wins, but the Seahawks have a lot more riding on this game than the 49ers do.

QB Russell Wilson has put up decent stats so far this year, but his team is not following suit. He has a QB Rating of 98.7 and has made 68.9 percent of his passes. Colin Kaepernick has a QB Rating of 84.7 and is only making 62.4 percent of his passes. Wilson is obviously a far superior quarterback, and thanks to the noticeably higher completion percentage, the Seahawks are likely to have more yards, and that means a higher likelihood of the Seahawks scoring more.
If you’re going to choose Wilson as your fantasy QB, you need to consider whether or not he will outperform the San Francisco defense. The 49ers are one of the top 10 worst defenses when it comes to points allowed. They’re averaging 26.7 points per game allowed, while the Seahawks are averaging only 20.8. Offensively speaking, the 49ers have the lowest points per game scored total at 16.7, while the Seahawks are currently scoring 22.3. They are both far from powerhouse teams, but they look a little more closely matched than what the bookmakers are predicting. In other words, this means that Wilson probably isn’t the right choice for your fantasy team.
However, the Seahawks do have a strong defense, and while they’re not as good as they were last year, they should be a good matchup against the 49ers thanks to their offensive weakness.

Another player that could have a fantasy impact is San Francisco running back Carlos Hyde. He’s the seventh best RB in the NFL right now when it comes to yards, and he has scored 3 touchdowns so far. Thomas Rawls, Seattle’s counterpart to the running back position has almost 100 fewer yards on the season, and just 1 touchdown. Hyde is the superior choice.
At wide receiver, San Francisco’s top guy is currently Anquan Boldin. He has 333 yards and 2 touchdowns. On Seattle, Doug Baldwin has 291 yards and 2 touchdowns. This is pretty comparable, and both can fill in as a decent tier 2 WR. Depending upon who is cheaper at your daily fantasy sports site of choice, either could work, although Baldwin has a slight upper hand thanks to San Francisco’s weaker defense.
The game hasn’t received a ton of hype because both teams do have losing records, but there is potential for it to be a good game. The teams are a lot closer than they look at first glance, and that means that it has potential to be a really high quality game.
