With week #7 of the NFL season out of the way, it’s time for the latest edition of busts and diamonds. As always, we go through the biggest let downs and the nicest surprises when it comes to daily fantasy football. This is a nice way to get a little scorecard on your choices from the previous week and see if there are conditions that will come up again in the future that can help you repeat your successes or avoid making the same mistakes.

The Weak Ones

Sam Bradford, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
Bradford had no touchdowns in the Eagles’ loss to the Carolina Panthers. Furthermore, he had only 205 passing yards with 1 interception. His QB Rating was a measly 58.7. For those that love Bradford and expected the Eagles to thrive under him, it is time to reconsider. Bradford’s very talented, but he is not on the right team to showcase that skill. It’s time to stop thinking about Bradford and start looking for fantasy points in other places.

LeSean McCoy, RB, Buffalo Bills
McCoy had a ton of hype when he came back from injury, then was a disappointment this week. He had no touchdowns, just 68 yards rushing, but he did have 2 receptions for 36 yards going for him. McCoy is talented, but the Bills are in a funk right now and until that’s fixed, McCoy should be avoided.

DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans
Hopkins has been a leader for yards all year, but only had 50 this weekend. There were no touchdowns, and he only had 6 receptions for 12 targets. Even though the Texans lost, Hopkins had a lot of chances to do well, but couldn’t capitalize on them. Hopefully for him it was just a onetime thing and he will be back at the top next week, but that remains to be seen.

Top Notch This Week

Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins
Whenever Tannehill plays superbly well, it’s a surprise. It’s happened often enough now, though, that it shouldn’t be a surprise anymore. But thankfully, it still is, and the daily fantasy sports sites keep his salary down pretty low to reflect their lack of faith in him. Tannehill threw 4 touchdowns in the Dolphins win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. He also had 282 passing yards with no interceptions. Tannehill is a good QB, and in the right situation he can play really well. It’s really dependent upon what his teammates are doing. Lately, they seem to all be on the same page.

Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Minnesota Vikings
Bridgewater is starting to come around in Minnesota. He threw 2 touchdown passes, had 316 yards in passing, which is enough to get a little bonus on some sites, and he had 0 interceptions. The downside to Bridgewater is still his offensive line; he was sacked 4 times in the win over the Detroit Lions. Most leagues don’t take points off for this, but it does impact his ability to move the ball forward as much as he is capable of. Bridgewater has potential, but there are still some things that need to come together before he can be considered a worthwhile pick week after week.

Blair Walsh, K, Minnesota Vikings
It’s rare that a kicker has such as standout performance, but Walsh had 5 field goals on 5 attempts, two of which were over 50 yards. He had 2 extra point attempts, and made only 1 of them, but it was a great outing regardless. Walsh has a great leg and is very accurate, and if he has the chances, he seems like one of the better kickers out there right now.
