When it comes to one day fantasy sports leagues, the weekends are by far the most popular time. That means that this time is by far the best to take advantage of the weaker manager pool in order to give yourself an advantage over the competition. It’s kind of the same concept that a professional poker player would use; if the player pool is weakened, then you want to play as much as possible in order to give yourself as much potential for making a profit as possible.
Some websites will even have weekend long leagues in order to add some excitement and variety for their customers. This is a great idea since it can do nothing but attract more people to the site.
Those people that are more familiar with season long fantasy sports leagues generally feel more comfortable with the longer format and thus are more apt to satisfy their curiosity with single day leagues during this time.
Right now, Major League Baseball is the sport that has the biggest weekend long league following. The NHL and the NBA are both in the playoffs. and that leaves just MLB because the NFL is not currently in season. Baseball is renowned for the fact that even star players often can go several games in a row without even a hit, and while a weekend league doesn’t necessarily eliminate this variance issue, it does reduce the likelihood of it happening a little. It also opens up your choice of available players since not every team plays every day, but there is hardly ever a period during the regular season where a team gets two days off in a row. So if you wanted to draft Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Jays were off on Saturday, you could still draft him because he is playing on Sunday. And with a .297 batting average and 10 homeruns by the middle of May, this could be a decision that pays off very well, despite the fact that he would have one less day to accumulate stats.
It really doesn’t matter where you play, or what kind of league you play in, as long as you are taking advantage of this favorable situation as best as possible. If you usually play in a league with a $109 buy in, perhaps during the weekend scaling it down to 10 different $11 leagues would be more effective. The player quality will be poorer at this level because of the cheaper buy in, and since you are investing only $1 more, it’s only a matter of adding extra time. It also eliminates the all-or-nothing element of playing in just one league. This can give you better results on a more consistent basis, and because the leagues are easier to win, your profit rate should go up considerably, especially if you are a good enough manager to justify playing at that higher level in the first place.
