One of the great things about playing a fantasy sport that only takes place on the weekends is that you have plenty of time to prep for it. This is especially true of fantasy PGA golf, and playing in a one day league gives you the ability to adapt your roster as needed to account for the golfers’ particular hot and cold streaks.

Most of the important tournaments take place over the course of four days, starting on Thursday mornings and going until Sunday afternoon. However, one day leagues give you the opportunity to skip trying to guess how a golfer will react to a certain course since you don’t have to select your lineup prior to Thursday. Because single day fantasy sports are for just one day, you can wait until the end of play on Friday, and select your golfers for Saturday morning with no negative repercussions.

There are even some sites that allow you to choose to have your score measured over the course of two days. This option allows you to compensate for a great golfer having a mediocre day. Even the tournament champion might find that they perform poorly on one of the four days of their tourney. It even lets you see if there are injuries or withdrawals before you make a commitment. If Bubba Watson gets injured Thursday, you don’t need to be stuck with him on Sunday if he’s not playing.

Fantasy golf accomplishes a couple things. First, it allows you to use your knowledge and enjoyment of the sport to create a little extra cash for yourself. There are many free fantasy sports sites out there, but there are also many that you can pay to enter that have cash prizes. The plus side of this is that golf leagues can be huge in size at times–sometimes more than 1,000 entrants–and this means huge prizes. The second thing is that it gives you a renewed interest in the sport. Many people find that they enjoy watching the game more if they have an investment in it. It doesn’t have to be a monetary investment, but many people find that playing fantasy golf makes watching it on television a lot more fun.

Single day leagues accomplish all of these things, but with less hassle and mandatory commitment. You can play every weekend if you’d like, but you certainly don’t have to. It gives you all of the positives without the negatives.
