It’s almost time to finalize your daily fantasy football rosters, so let’s take a quick look at a few of the top quarterbacks that will be playing in Week #4, and see whether they should be drafted or skipped over and saved for another time.
Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo Bills
Taylor is a pleasant surprise this year, even if you are not a Buffalo fan. He has had three great games, two of which were wins for the Bills. His QB Rating is a whopping 116.1 after three games, a number that places him as the fifth best QB in the NFL. Whether or not he can maintain this ranking throughout the year will be seen, but against the New York Giants’ defense, he’s not likely to play any worse. If he was able to put up 242 yards against the Patriots in Week #2, he should be able to beat that against New York. His accuracy is one of the best in the league right now, too, which means that his complete pass numbers should be pretty high. He has a 74.4 percent completion rate, which puts him at number four in the league, only 0.9 percent behind the leader. If you can find Taylor for cheap, he’s a top choice. On major sites like FanDuel and DraftKings, he currently doesn’t rank among the top ten most expensive at this position.

Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
The Chargers are an underrated team led by an underrated quarterback. Rivers has a completion rate for the year of 74.5 percent and a QB Rating of 100.5. Even though the Chargers are 1-2, Rivers keeps averaging almost 300 yards per game. His average over three games stands at 296.7, mostly thanks to a 403 yard game last weekend. This week, the Chargers go up against the Cleveland Browns, who are currently nursing a 1-2 record as well. It seems like a great chance for Rivers to shine, and he is likely to be cheap at most fantasy sites. At DraftKings, he is the tenth most expensive QB listed. He has a great upside, and is pretty cheap considering. If he fits your budget, he’s worth considering.
Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
Luck is the second most expensive QB on DraftKings and FanDuel. The only problem is that this is based almost completely on hype and not on what he’s done on the field. Yes, this is the worst three game stretch that the young QB has had in his three plus years in the NFL, but that doesn’t mean that he’s proven he’s worth such a high price right now. The Colts go up against the weak Jacksonville defense this weekend, so if he’s going to play well this season, this will be the game that we see it happen in. It’s just too risky to place your trust in an expensive quarterback that hasn’t produced yet this year. If you are also feeling risk averse, you need to fade Luck yet again this weekend. If he plays well, then he can be a consideration next week.
Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers
Newton is a top quarterback all of a sudden, and for a good reason. He’s a great athlete and he’s putting up big numbers. He’s the number seven QB on DraftKings and the number five QB on FanDuel. This means he’s probably a better pick at DraftKings than at FanDuel, although he should be useful on either site. He has good value, and going against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend should give him a lot of opportunities to put up bigger than average fantasy point totals. He’s definitely worth a start this week.
