DraftKings are offering $50K to the winner of their Mega Perfect Game. Pitchers will win points based on the following categories: inning pitched, strike out, win, complete game, complete game shut out and no hitter. Points will be lost in these aspects of pitching: earned run allowed, hit against, base on balls against and hit batsmen. Hitting statistics for pitchers will not be counted. To make selections based on sound criteria a player’s Total Runs Average (TRA) and Earned Run Average (ERA) should be calculated.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings are running daily baseball fantasy games today with lucrative prizes.
Today’s Selections
Chad Bettis (Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants) is a right handed thrower with 2 years experience in MLB. His season long Earned Run Average is 2 points better than his overall return. He has won three of five matches this season and is showing great improvement in allowing players to walk. His side ended a five match winning streak with two losses but won their last fixture against Milwaukee. Bettis has had a slight dip in his fantasy rating recently but can get his season back on track tonight.
Robbie Ray (Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres) is a left-handed thrower and batter in his second season in major league baseball. He has improved his numbers for ERA significantly from last season to this as his win-loss record is moving the right way. Allowing players to walk is looking better in 2015 and overall his career is moving in the right direction. In terms of fantasy baseball his rating has gone up in the last seven days so more improvement is expected in his fifth appearance of the season against San Diego this evening.
Taijuan Walker (Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels) throws and bats with his right hand and is another relatively inexperienced player embarking on his second season in MLB. Overall his statistics have worsened over the early months of the season but he can turn things around and gain some momentum in Los Angeles today. His overall figure for letting players walk is not exceptional but he has the potential to improve in this area of the game. Despite pitching much better at home he has produced some decent play on the road in the last two weeks.
Trevor May (Minnesota Twins at Milwaukee Brewers) uses his right hand for throwing and batting and has just one full year of experience at this level. His ERA is improving quickly and he has a better win-loss record in 2015 than during last year. His WHIP is moving in the right direction but his side have lost their last three games when he has played by a total of 9 runs to 3. Even in a struggling side May’s fantasy rating is moving positively and he has found better form over the last seven days.
Alex Colome (Tampa Bay Rays hosting Boston Red Sox) is right handed for the key baseball disciplines practised over two full seasons in MLB. His ERA is not as solid as last year but he comes in to this match on the back of not conceding a run in seven innings. Overall in 2015 he has given up 28 runs in 56 innings which makes him average in the context of pitching stats for the whole league. Colome gave up just one run in seven innings on Sunday at Cleveland but his colleagues did not score so the match was lost by just one run. He will be looking to build on that effort at home this evening.
