This weekend, the PGA Tour goes to La Quinta, California. The field might not be as thick with talent as it will be later in the 2016 PGA season, but right now, that just leaves the door open for an experienced daily fantasy golf fan to step in and take over. Our hope is that this guidance will help you to dominate your league this weekend. Here are the top five golfers to consider having on your roster.
Patrick Reed: You might be wondering where Reed has come from this season, and that’s a valid question. Regardless, he’s made the top 10 in all four tournaments he’s played in so far this season, and as such, needs to be considered for your roster. He’s the top ranked player on DraftKings with a salary of $12,400. He’s also averaging 120.3 fantasy points per tournament, making him the top performer, on average, entered in this one without question. His stroke per round average is amazingly low right now, too, with a 67.8. The only real drawback to drafting him is that he’s expensive. If you are worried about experience, Reed shouldn’t be a concern. He had a great start to his season last year, and although he petered out a little at the end, he still had a 27th place finish at the Tour Championship. He was a major force all year, just overshadowed by others at the end of the year.
Zach Johnson: Johnson is the number 3 ranked player going into this tourney. He has averaged only 77.4 fantasy points per event, though, and that is a cause for concern. His salary of $11,900 seems way too high as a result of this. The plus side to Johnson is that he is averaging a pretty low stroke count per round at 68.9. He’s made 4-of-4 cuts on the year, has a top 10 finish, and looks like a surefire thing to make the cut again this weekend. He’s definitely overpriced, but if you are looking for a sure thing to play all four rounds and don’t mind the expense, he might have a place on your roster. We’ll be looking elsewhere, though.
Kevin Na: Na is ranked number 6 going into this tournament, but deserves a spot in the top 3 with ease. His salary is $10,600, and that actually seems pretty low. He has played in 5 tourneys this season, has made the cut in all 5, and has made the top 10 on 3 occasions. Na faltered a bit last weekend with a T28 place finish, yet still managed to average 67.3 strokes over the four rounds. He’s in a good spot going into this weekend, his price artificially driven down because of a low finish last weekend, and his average of 98.6 fantasy points per tournament is one of the highest in the field. He’s a solid pick.
Phil Mickelson: Mickelson is going to be a top 10 pick in any league you play in, and as such, you need to consider him. Just remember, Mickelson is way past his prime, this is his first tournament of the season, and he’s going to be overpriced no matter how you look at it. DraftKings has him priced at $10,400, and that is probably about $1,000 more than what he’s actually worth. The upside is that he’s experienced and wouldn’t be entered in this tourney if he wasn’t 100 percent ready to compete. He’s going to be popular, hence the inflated price, but he could be a top 10 contender for the finish if you don’t mind paying a bit.
Jason Bohn: Bohn is the sleeper pick of the weekend, although how that’s possible, we’re not sure. Bohn has played in four tourneys, has made all four cuts, and has made the top 10 three times. He’s averaging 105.3 fantasy points per tournament, and his price of just $10,100 makes him an absolute steal for the second best performer in this lineup. He averaged just 66.5 strokes per round last week, too, giving him a huge edge over the competition. He’s almost a must-have for every lineup out there.
