Every week, we like to take a look at what happened in the NFL over the weekend and identify who the big fantasy busts were, and who the standouts, or diamonds, were. Now that week #13 has come and gone, here is the latest update. Even though the regular NFL season is winding down, this information should be helpful as you draft your daily fantasy football rosters for the coming weeks, and into the postseason.
Had a Bad Day
Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Indianapolis Colts
Hasselbeck might just be the backup QB for the Colts, but he has been a disappointment this season, even with this in mind. He threw 1 touchdown, had 2 interceptions, and had a total of 169 yards on 16 completions. It was one of his biggest disappointments this season as he tries to fill the shoes of Andrew Luck. Hasselbeck is certainly not a top fantasy QB pick, but because he’s experienced and because he’s had a decent career, drafting him at a cheap price might seem like a good choice. It’s not. Stay away from him on your roster.
Pick Some Solid Performers at DraftKings
LeGarrette Blount, RB, New England Patriots
The Patriots had a disappointing game as they lost the Philadelphia Eagles in an almost blowout. Even though the Pats almost came back, cutting a onetime 21 point deficit to just 7, their running game was very poor. Blount had no touchdowns and just 54 yards. His season average is 59.1 with a total of 6 touchdowns, but this was still a below average game for him. He will make a decent backup RB for your roster in the coming weeks of the season if you are looking for a consistent and underpriced talent.
Had an Exceptional Day
Allen Robinson, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Robinson had 153 yards receiving, 3 touchdowns, and 10 receptions. This was a career game for Robinson, and his performance helped the Jags stay competitive against the Tennessee Titans. Although they lost, 39-42, Robinson’s performance had nothing to do with that outcome. The question is, is Robinson capable of a repeat performance like this in the future? He has had two games this season with 2 touchdowns, and he’s averaging 90.0 yards per game right now, so another one like this isn’t out of the question. It’s not likely to happen again this season, though. The Jaguars play some decent teams in their last four games. He’s likely to keep being a top target, but a game of this caliber again is unlikely.
Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars
On a similar note, this was a career game for Blake Bortles, too. He had 5 passing touchdowns (3 to Robinson), threw for 322 yards, and lost 1 yard on two rushing attempts. He was sacked twice, but threw no interceptions. This was the highlight game of Bortles’ year, and with the schedule that the Jaguars have, he probably won’t see anything near this again. His fantasy price is going to be inflated over the coming weeks, unfortunately, and because his talent level is not going to be higher than his price, he is probably best avoided on your roster.
Thomas Rawls, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Rawls had 101 yards rushing on Sunday and 1 touchdown. The Seahawks had a big win over the Minnesota Vikings, who have been playing quite well lately. Rawls could be a great pick in the coming weeks as the Seahawks have some weak competition scheduled in their last several games. Their last game against Arizona will be a tough one, but the other three have a lot of opportunities for Rawls and the rest of his team to play well. He is a solid choice for the next three weeks, especially if Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson can stay healthy and keep making plays like he has been the last few weeks. The Seahawks had a rough start to their season, but they appear to be a solid offensive team right now.
