Before you jump into your Week #10 daily fantasy football roster, make sure you know what the projections are for the upcoming games. There’s a lot of data out there now, and that goes for both the players themselves, and the defenses that they will be going up against. Both of these things need to be taken into account before you draft someone. Here, we’ve broken down a few of the common choices that you will be facing. Hopefully, this gives you an edge in your league.
Quarterback
Ben Roethlisberger: Roethlisberger has some decent potential this week, at least from a statistical point of view. He is not likely to be too expensive, plus he is going against a weaker passing defense in the Dallas Cowboys. If he were 100 percent healthy, then we would strongly recommend drafting him. However, Roethlisberger did not look strong in last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Not only were his passing numbers much lower than usual, his game was sloppy with 2 fumbles and an interception. He is better than this, but this is not the place where you should be testing out whether or not he is healthy. If he were a bit cheaper, then maybe. But he’s still too expensive for experimentation and risk taking this week. We are passing on him, hoping that he stays cheap next week and indicates he’s ready to play at the top level again.
Cam Newton: Newton has had a rocky start to his season, but he’s in a good spot going into this weekend. Newton threw for just 225 yards last week and his rushing numbers were weak, but he is in a spot to shine this weekend. He’s extremely cheap, as far as a top ranked QB goes, and he is going against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are ranked 20th against the QB. We like Newton’s chances here at this price.
Wide Receiver
Julio Jones: Jones is the most expensive wide receiver in the NFL this weekend, and for a good reason. He is one of the most productive WRs in the league from a fantasy point of view, and he has shown that he’s capable of great consistency, even when he is not at his peak. However, with Jones and the rest of the Atlanta Falcons going against the Philadelphia Eagles, Jones is likely to be impacted negatively. The Eagles are ranked #8 in the NFL against the pass, and this is going to hurt Jones and QB Matt Ryan’s performance a bit. Plus, with an expensive price tag, a lot of Jones’s value disappears.
Antonio Brown: We commented before that we are passing on Roethlisberger, but for us, Brown is one of the best picks this week at WR. He has consistently shown us that he can put up points, even when he is struggling. With Roethlisberger perhaps not in top shape, Brown’s price has dropped a little, but even with a decline in performance, we see him being a top performer this week. Plus, the Cowboys have just an average pass defense, which is a situation that he thrives in. Draft him only under the caveat that he is slightly cheaper than he typically is.
Running Back
Jay Ajayi: Ajayi is a brand new sensation, and just emerging on most fantasy football fans’ radars. This week, he has a ton of potential, not just because he has shown strong results the last few games, but because the Dolphins are weak on the passing game, and their opponent this week has the #30 ranked rushing defense in the NFL. The San Diego Chargers have struggled in this area all season, and it’s what the Dolphins are doing best right now. This is going to be a big game for Ajayi.
Le’Veon Bell: The Pittsburgh Steelers have relied on Bell a lot since returning, and with Roethlisberger still not in the best shape, there’s a chance that Bell could get more carries than usual this week. But this might not be to much avail. The Dallas Cowboys have a strong rushing defense, and if you are going to choose a RB from this game, it should be Ezekiel Elliott of the Cowboys, and not Bell. The Cowboys are ranked #2 in the NFL against the rush, and that will bring Bell’s stats down a lot.
