This weekend, the PGA Tour comes to Akron, Ohio, for the Bridgestone Invitational, and the World Golf Championship. This is one of the bigger events of the year, and the golfers entered here are very strong. Before you draft your lineup for your daily fantasy golf team, be sure to look at our analysis so you can have the best team possible and have the best shot at winning your league.

All salary numbers come from DraftKings.

Dustin Johnson: Johnson is ranked number two for this tournament with a salary of $11,600. He is the U.S. Open champ, and he has some of the most impressive stats in the entire field. He is averaging 69.9 strokes per round, is contributing 83.2 fantasy points per tournament, has made 13 of 13 cuts, and has made the top ten in 8 tourneys. There’s no question in our minds that he’s the top golfer in the field, yet he’s ranked at only the second most expensive. That’s almost an instant draft for us, and it should be for you, too.

Jason Day: We’re really not sure why Day is ranked ahead of Dustin Johnson for the number one slot, but at a salary of $12,100, he is way too expensive for our liking given his current stats. He’s definitely a great golfer, and he has some great numbers, but there are others that are performing at a higher fantasy level right now, namely Johnson. If you’re going to draft one or the other, Day is not the way to go. He has a lower average fantasy score at 83.2, and a higher stroke count per round with a 70.1. If he were a bit cheaper, we’d draft him in a heartbeat, but not at this price.

Jordan Spieth:
Spieth is a top golfer, and with a salary of $11,300, he could be a steal here. We’re not so sure, though. He’s had a very rollercoaster kind of performance so far this year, and it’s tough to tell when he will be on and when he won’t. It seems like he is always strong early on in tournaments, and then fades rapidly. He did this at the U.S. Open, and at The Masters, too. Still, his stats are strong. He’s averaging a stroke count of 69.7 per round, and is putting up 81.5 fantasy points per tournament. He hasn’t been extremely reliable when it comes to winning tournaments this season, but he’s made the top ten on 5 out of his 14 appearances, more than 35 percent. He’s a great golfer at a generous price for him. We’d consider him far more strongly if Dustin Johnson wasn’t in a similar price range with better stats.

Adam Scott: Adam Scott is ranked at number four in the field with a salary of $10,500. He has hugely impressive stats, though. He’s made 12 of 12 cuts, has a stroke average of 69.7, and is averaging 86.2 fantasy points per tournament, which puts him at second in the field, behind only Dustin Johnson. If you avoid drafting Day or Spieth, and still draft Johnson, Scott is a possibility depending on what you do with the rest of your roster. He’s definitely a strong consideration, but be sure to look directly below him before you finalize your roster.

Bubba Watson: If you’re considering drafting Scott, you need to look at Watson, too. His salary of $10,100 makes him cheaper than Scott, but his stats are very similar. He has made the cut 11 out of 11 times, has 4 top ten finishes, and has a stroke count average of 70.1. That’s a little higher than Scott, but that’s what your $400 discount is for. We think Watson’s a contender here, but it really comes down to what you think. He finished T51 at the U.S. Open, which isn’t great, but this marked his first big tournament after fighting injury. Use your discretion on this one.
