The PGA Tour comes to us this weekend from Fort Worth Texas with the Dean & Deluca Invitational. Before you draft your daily fantasy golf roster, we’ve run some analysis on five of the top golfers in the field. Before you finalize your team’s lineup, take a look.
Jordan Spieth: Spieth is, as he has been often, the top ranked golfer going into this tournament, but for us, he’s barely worthy of the top ten. And when he’s priced the highest in the field, that’s almost always an automatic disqualification for your daily fantasy golf team. However, he might have a use to some people, so he’s worth taking a look at. His salary of $12,800 is very high, but of the top ten golfers here, he has the second highest average fantasy point total with his 81.7. That has potential. His average stroke count per round of 69.7 ties him for the best in the top ten, too. In this field, Spieth would be an easy draft if he were $800 cheaper, but that’s not the case here. What you need to decide is whether a top ten appearance is worth this high price to you. In our case, the answer is no. There are simply too many other golfers that can perform at the same level or better right now, and every one of them is cheaper.
Adam Scott: Instead of Spieth, we’ll be focusing our efforts on Adam Scott. Scott is 10 for 10 when it comes to making the cut this year, and has 4 top ten appearances. These two stats alone make him a better choice than Spieth. He also has 2 wins during that period. Additionally, Scott has a higher average when it comes to fantasy points than Spieth does, too. From a statistical standpoint, there’s no way to argue that Scott is not better than Spieth this year. He even has the same stroke count per round with his 69.7. The salary of $11,300 also makes him quite attractive. He’s our number one fantasy pick for this tournament.
Patrick Reed: According to DraftKings, Reed is ranked number six overall for this tournament, with a salary of $10,000. Really though, Reed should be ranked three or four, and that means he’s a strong pick. His average fantasy point total per tournament is 72.8, and he’s putting up an average stroke count per round of 70.3. That latter number could be a tiny bit lower, but it’s well above average when it comes to talent in this tournament. There are only three golfers below 70 here, and Reed is right on the cusp of it. Also, he’s made the cut 12 out of 14 times and has made the top ten 7 times. He’s perhaps the most consistent golfer in the top ten. He’s almost an instant draft for most rosters, or at least he should be. You should strongly consider using him, granted that you can find good value at the bottom of your roster. At $10,000, this should be quite simple.
Matt Kuchar: Kuchar is ranked number three according to DraftKings with a salary of $11,000. He’s certainly a strong golfer, and has an average stroke count of 69.9 for the year. He’s made the top cut 12 out of 13 times and has an average fantasy point total of 73.0 per tourney. He looks quite similar to Reed, actually, but for a grand more. Unfortunately, that means most rosters shouldn’t draft him. We won’t hold it against you if you do, but there’s more likely better value elsewhere.
Kevin Na: This is a golfer that might surprise a lot of people, but if you look at his stats, you will see why we’ve included him. He’s made the cut 11 out of 14 times, has 5 top ten appearances, and has a fantasy total of 72.6 per tournament. All of this for a price tag of just $9,200. Drafting him seems like a no brainer.
