Like we do every week, here is your daily fantasy football recap for the week. Week #12 of the NFL season was an exciting one with a couple upsets and several games that went exactly as expected. There are only a few weeks left in the regular season, but there are still plenty of opportunities for you to improve your ability as a DFS manager. Our hope is that these insights will help you to find a great opportunity in the coming weeks, and avoid potential pitfalls so that you can win your league in style.

Who Let us Down?

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers
What is going on with Aaron Rodgers? He went from the highest salary daily fantasy football player out there in the first half of the season to underperforming four out of the last five weeks. The Packers lost to the Chicago Bears, 13-17, and Rodgers threw for only 202 yards and just 1 touchdown. There was an interception in the mix, along with 2 sacks. Honestly, the problem with Rodgers appears to be a decision making one. His completion rate against Chicago was just 51.2 percent, which is far below his already depressed average this year of 60.5 percent. Rodgers is talented, but with Green Bay in a funk and quickly falling from grace, he’s way too expensive and should be avoided until things turn around.

DeMarco Murray, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Murray had another disappointing performance on Thursday against the Detroit Lions. He had 30 yards on 14 attempts, and 19 of those yards came on a single run. There were no touchdowns as the Eagles really have struggled offensively. They lost, 14-45, and although a big portion of that is because of a poor quarterback performance, that’s not likely to change anytime this season. As talented as Murray might be, avoid him for the rest of the season, at least until things can be sorted out with the rest of his team.

These Guys Rose to the Occasion

Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson has gone back and forth this season between playing well and playing poorly. This was a diamond week for him on that teeter-totter. He threw 5 touchdowns, had 345 yards in passing, and even picked up 14 yards rushing. There were no interceptions and only 2 sacks. Wilson is underrated, but his team has struggled severely this year, and that’s had a big negative impact on his ability to score fantasy points. However, with a completion rate this week of 70 percent and one 80 yard pass thrown into the mix, this was a stellar week for him. Unfortunately, his season has just been far too unpredictable to pick him up for your daily fantasy team if he is at a high price, or against an average to above average defense.

Sammy Watkins, WR, Buffalo Bills
The Bills might have lost against the Kansas City Chiefs, but it wasn’t because of Sammy Watkins. He had 158 yards receiving, 2 touchdowns, and all of that was done with a reception rate of 60 percent. Watkins has had to step up this year with Percy Harvin out for the season, and once Buffalo QB Tyrod Taylor finds solid footing again, Watkins is set to play even better. He’s definitely a player to keep an eye on for the rest of the year, and might prove to be better than Harvin if he keeps improving at this rate. The Bills play a weaker than average schedule for the rest of their year compared to the first half of their season, and that improves his outlook even more.

Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
This was one of the biggest games of an already impressive season from Peterson. He had 158 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, including a 35 yard effort. He helped lead his team to a big win over the Atlanta Falcons, and silenced any doubts that he’s still a top level athlete. That doesn’t mean he’s an instant purchase every week, though. He will continue to be expensive, and many managers do not want to pay top dollar for a running back. Still, he’s a worth consideration if you can find the extra cash for him.
