Fantasy golf has grown in popularity over the last few years, but it still has not reached the same levels as the other major professional sports have. One day and weekend leagues might be able to change this, though. In a sport like golf, one day leagues are especially convenient because the golf season can be incredibly long, and not every golfer participates every weekend–or even against the same competition. The golf season can be confusing, but by breaking it down into weekend long chunks throughout the year, it can be a lot more fun to participate in fantasy golf leagues and a lot less stressful.

Another positive feature about single day fantasy golf is that you can get a good look at how golfers are performing before you create your roster. Most leagues don’t start until Saturday mornings, which means you can watch the first two days of a four day tournament and see how your favorites are doing, and if need be, avoid them and draft alternates. A good current example would be Tiger Woods. He made his return to tournament play recently after having back surgery, but didn’t make the cut and will not go on for Saturday and Sunday’s play. If you drafted him before Thursday morning, you would now be stuck with him, and he would do nothing for your standings in the league. In other words, single day leagues let you form a team with more complete information than other formats allow you.

Not every daily fantasy sports league offers PGA choices to their clients, so if this is something you are interested in, shop around before you make a final decision. It is becoming more popular, but you still may find that some of the smaller sites haven’t picked up on this yet. Those sites are missing out, because daily fantasy golf can be much more entertaining than a season long league because of the increased strategy and higher payouts. It can also be a great supplement to a year long league, if you are looking for a different perspective that will help you improve your overall strategy, too.
