The NFL season is entering week #4, and the AFC offensive player of the month of September has been named. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady received the honors thanks to a great trio of games. He’s leading the NFL in passing yards with 1,112, is third in QB Rating with a solid 119.6, has a 72.2 percent completion rate, and has a tie for second with most touchdowns thrown with 9. He’s off to a phenomenal start to his season, and the Patriots have a 3-0 record. In fact, the only other player in the NFL that could even be considered for the MVP slot right now is the QB of the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers. He’s the only player with more touchdowns, and one of the two with a better QB Rating. Neither have thrown any interceptions.

Brady just threw his 400th career touchdown pass last weekend and is not playing like one of the oldest players in the NFL. Brady has never finished a season with a completion rate above 70 percent, but right now he’s on pace for that. And from a fantasy perspective, he’s a top choice. On most sites, including FanDuel and DraftKings, he’s not the most expensive QB, either. That honor goes to Aaron Rodgers. Brady isn’t even in the top two as Andrew Luck has taken that spot. Still, because of Brady’s great numbers and huge amount of passing yards, he is typically a better value pick as QB, depending upon what your drafting strategy is. At the very least, he’s worth a long look to see if he fits in with what you’re doing.

The funny part about all of the Tom Brady hype right now is that if the original suspension he was given after the AFC Championship game deflated ball scandal had stood, he wouldn’t even have been playing yet. The NFL handed him a four game suspension to start the 2015 season, and he would only be 75 percent of the way done with that at this point in the year. Instead, he’s now the top ranked offensive player in the AFC. It’s a kind of irony that Brady fans should relish. The NFL has filed an appeal to the court’s overturning of Brady’s suspension, but it’s already been decided that the earliest that this will be heard is February—most likely well after the Super Bowl is done, especially if Brady is playing in it. At 3-0, you can’t really count the Patriots out of it yet.

Going into week #4, the Patriots have their bye week. Coming into the following week, week #5, the Pats go up against the Dallas Cowboys. With Tony Romo out with a broken bone, New England is the favorite, but how will Brady stack up against the Dallas defense? Some of that remains to be seen this week as Dallas faces the New Orleans Saints, but as of right now, Dallas does not have a great defense. They are not a top 15 team when it comes to limiting the score, and this is where Brady thrives. They’ve also given up 317.7 yards per game. And because Brady likes to throw, there are tons of chances for him to score some extra fantasy points that way, too. Unless there is some sort of major change in the Dallas-New Orleans game, Brady should be a top consideration for you to start on your daily fantasy football team. Also pay attention to quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Tyrod Taylor, though, as they have the potential to creep in with excellent performances this weekend as well.
