It’s always nice to know which top rated football players are expected to perform poorly against their upcoming competitors when you are getting ready to draft your daily fantasy football team. When the daily fantasy sports sites rank players, they are usually not looking at competition too closely, although some do take this into account with other methods. However, when you’re looking at price, this is never weighed too heavily, yet it can have a profound impact upon how a player does.

This week, we will look at three highly regarded players that you might be considering for your fantasy team this weekend and show you why you might want to reconsider.

Tom Brady. QB. New England Patriots

This weekend, the Patriots are playing in Buffalo against the Bills. Last week, the Bills had the top rated defense in the NFL, which is not surprising since they were easily a top three defense last year. Brady thrived last Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but this weekend will be a very different story for him. While he earned a QB Rating of an astounding 143.8 and threw four touchdowns against the Steelers, he’s very unlikely to do that in Buffalo. Last year, Buffalo led the league in sacks and had 2 last weekend against the Colts and Andrew Luck. Brady was sacked twice last weekend too, but the offensive line didn’t struggle much the rest of the game. That is not likely to be the case in Buffalo. Say what you want about the Bills, but they have a very powerful defense this year and will not make things easy for Brady. The Patriots are still the favorites here, but it will not be as easy as a game for them as last week was and there’s no way that Brady will post the same monster numbers that he did against Pittsburgh. He is not likely to post the stats that his price tag will need to be worthwhile.

Eddie Lacy. RB. Green Bay Packers

Last week, Lacy had 99 yards rushing and a touchdown. He’s highly ranked this weekend again, but the Packers play the Seattle Seahawks this weekend, and they have a top rated defense. Lacy is a great rusher, especially after contact has been made with a defender, but Seattle is a bit stronger than other teams. Lacy performed well last week and this has boosted his price for Week #2, but his competition was much softer then than it is now. This leads to the conclusion that his price is inflated and he will underperform. Will he do well? Most likely. But he is not likely to perform as well as the DFS sites like FanDuel and DraftKings have projected him to. For this reason alone, you should stay away from him on your drafts.

Allen Robinson. WR. Jacksonville Jaguars

Robinson had a decent showing last week against Carolina despite his team’s loss. He was injured last week, but is currently listed as probable after missing some time in that game. However, he only received for 27 yards last week, and he didn’t look nearly as good as he should have, despite being used in many leagues as a receiver. There are many others out there in the mid tier that should be used ahead of Robinson because they are far more reliable. He’s playing against the Miami Dolphins this weekend, and as weak of a team as they might be, they are stronger than Jacksonville. Robinson just doesn’t have the ability to make his team’s QB any stronger and while he might be a great athlete, he doesn’t have the support he needs to post the numbers that he is capable of.
